2 Minute Project

I am having too much fun with this project! The next section in the book is the 2 Minute projects. I chose to to the project called Seven Things. It is based off of an improv game where you are given a topic and you have to come up with things about that topic. Basically you are given a topic (like names of new dance moves or secret nicknames for Robert DeNiro--yeah that was a real one!) and you have 2 minutes to come up with 7 things for that topic. For this one, I wanted to do as many topics as I could so I got my family involved and made it a game!! So I will give you one of the lists that each of my family members came up with:

From my mom:
7 excuses to get out of a date that's going badly
-My pet octopus is having surgery
-I need to go shave my legs
-I'm just not that into you
-I feel like I'm going to throw up and have diarrhea
-My husband is going to kill you if I don't get home
-My uncle, the serial killer, is getting out of jail and I need to go pick him up
-My mother is calling me

From my dad:
7 names for a shrimp
-Pee-wee
-Short Stuff
-Flat Tail
-Groucho
-Rover
-Red
-Tiny

From my sister:
7 title for a love song to a snail
-Oh Beautiful Slug
-My Snail, My Slug
-Sluggy McSlugster
-The Shell On Your Back
-Slowly Loving You
-Snailing Tonight
-You Snail My Heart Away

And finally from me!
7 reasons to send soup back
-There's a hair in it
-I want it in a different bowl
-I don't like spoons
-I thought it was chowder
-It doesn't have the right letters of the alphabet in it
-I don't like the waiter who brought it out
-Every Wednesday is 'Send-Back-Soup' day!

30 Second Project

Unstuck by Noah Scalin. Wow! At first when I bought it, I was just doing it for the project and was thinking I would return it when I was done but this is such an interesting book! It truly allows you to take a break from your work and relax and just do something creative. It is split up into 6 sections by how long the project should take you: 30 seconds, 2 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, and Multi-hour projects. I'm starting off with one of the 30 second projects. I have decided to do the project called "Haiku Everywhere". For this you are supposed to just take 30 seconds and try and come up with a few haiku about what you are doing or something you are looking at. Currently I am babysitting 4 boys that I take care of every week and they are looking up music videos to their favorite songs on YouTube. They have already watched Sexy and I Know It by LMFAO (crazy, I know!) and The Show Goes On by Lupe Fiasco and right now they are watching Stereo Hearts by Gym Class Heros ft. Adam Levine. So I came up with a few haiku about babysitting these boys, hope you enjoy them!

Babysitting now
Four boys on the computer
Bite size Oreos

Hard service project
This book makes it much more fun
Blogging every day

Phil is frustrating
Can never make up his mind
He is just a dog

Ok the last one is my favorite quote from the show 'How I Met Your Mother' by the character Barney Stinson and I just separated it so it would be a haiku.

When I'm sad I stop
Being sad and be awesome
Instead. True Story

Take a break from all your work and make up some fun haiku!

Project River City Reads

Hi everyone! This blog has been set up specifically to promote an organization called River City Reads for a service project through my Mass Communications 101 class. They help people in the Richmond area set up book clubs and provide them with the materials to hold meetings and suggests places to have the meetings. They also promote books readings and other events at different book stores like Chop Suey, which is in Carytown.

For the next week, I will be blogging about the upcoming book reading at Chop Suey for the book Unstuck by Noah Scalin. This book has been chosen as River City Reads' latest book club title. It is 52 ideas about how to get your creative juices flowing with projects for any lifestyle plus artists profiles. I will be posting about certain projects every day this week up until the book reading on Saturday, December 3rd from 5-7. If you're free, head on out! Other VCU students in the service project group will be live tweeting from the event so you can also follow them if you can't make it (twitter name will be coming soon). Hope you can make it! (Unstuck is available at most book stores and on Amazon)
